Everett Silvertips Win Season Opener In Spokane, Home Opener Friday

The Everett Silvertips opened their 2021-2022 season on the road yesterday with a win at Spokane. Here’s the recap of that game and a reminder that the ‘Tips Home Kick-off is taking place in downtown Everett this Friday.

Co-captain Ronan Seeley provided an assist on the first goal of the season and scored the winner with 2:17 sudden death overtime to lead the Everett Silvertips to a 4-3 overtime win over the Spokane Chiefs in front of 3,303 spectators at Spokane Arena on Sunday.

The Silvertips won their season opener for the second year in a row, defeating two Spokane rallies, including a late game-defining goal from Mac Gross. The Silvertips, 1-0 in the season, will be dormant until Friday when they open their home schedule against the Portland Winterhawks and hoist their 8th U.S. Division championship banner in the rafters of the Angel of the Winds Arena at 7:05 pm.

Jackson Berezowski and Jacob Wright scored consecutive goals for the Silvertips and built a 2-0 lead with 9:55 in the opening period. Berezowski picked up a pass from the goal line from a Spokane defender, past goat farmer Mason Beaupit for a power play goal at 7:06, and Wright followed a highlight role from Koen MacInnes with a snapshot between the circles at 9:55 for a 2-0 lead.

Spokane leveled the gap with successive goals from Ty Cheveldayoff and Luke Toporowski to level the game in the second period.

Ryan Hofer helped the Silvertips take the lead at 1:40 in the second period and take a 3-2 lead, but Mac Gross buried a left point shot with 1:52 remaining in regulation to keep the Chiefs alive .

Seeley finished the game for the win 2:17 when he took Michal Gut’s pass (who almost knocked the Chiefs out with a missed backhand) and buried a diversion from the left circle, which sent the Silvertips in a cheer when they each jump one over the boards.

Mason Beaupit took the overtime defeat with 28 saves.
