Everett Joseph (Joe) Wilson, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on July 31, 2021.

Joe was born on July 29, 1951 in Gloversville, NY, to Everett Joseph Sr. and Elizabeth (Stuart) Wilson. He grew up in Wells and was a graduate of Wells Central School in 1969. From 1971 to 1973 he served in the army as a member of parliament stationed in Germany.

On May 29, 1971, he married his best friend and love of his life, Mari (carpenter). They had two daughters together and raised their family in the town of Wells.

Joe was a calm and gentle soul. He was always ready to help anyone who needed help. He was a hard worker who spent many years working first for the Highway Department of the Town of Wells and later for the Water Department of the Town of Wells. Joe loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren as much as possible. He also loved the outdoors and often wandered through the woods on his property. When the weather was nice (and sometimes even when it rained), Joe loved riding his 1948 Harley Davidson Panhead. He didn’t need a place to go because every trip was about the journey, not the destination. He was a common and familiar sight on the streets around the city of Wells and beyond. Almost every year Joe planned an overland trip with his 2006 Harley Davidson to visit his daughter and grandson in Arizona and to see the many sights of our beautiful country along the way.

Joe was previously deceased by his wife, Mari, both parents, and his brother, Patrick Wilson. He leaves behind his two daughters Naomi Barkevich (Daniel), Halfmoon and Cristi Wilson (Jeremy LaBuff) from Flagstaff, Arizona; four grandchildren Kevin, David, Kyle, and Keem; two sisters Barbara Wilson and Evelyn (Wilson) Bonds; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and beloved friends.

Joe was a great and popular father; Grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, husband, son and friend. His death is an enormous and shocking loss and we will miss him very much. His family would like to remind everyone to watch out for motorcycles when driving.

Drive on, Joe, finally reunited with Mari, towards eternity. “It is good to have an end to the journey; But in the end it is the journey that counts. “ – Ursula K. LeGuin
