Everett, CR marksmen earn wins | Local

JEROME — The Everett rifle team topped Conemaugh Township on Wednesday, 1380-1347.

“It always feels good to pick up a win against Township,” said Everett coach Coltin Rice. “We definitely don’t take these wins for granted, Township is always a solid team and we definitely have to earn it against them. Looking at our scores, I wouldn’t say we had a special night or anything. Just pretty average overall. But I’m extremely happy with our performance though, specifically towards our focus on simple shot execution as well as our mental games.

“We’ve been talking a lot in the last week in particular about having some leaders really start to step up and lead by example, and for everyone to maintain our composures on the line to give our best efforts for all 30 record shots. We did all of this tonight, and I’m really happy with the team. I believe some things are starting to click for everyone and they’re all starting to see the importance of the things I preach year after year. We’re not quite halfway through our matches yet, but I believe we can have a very special end to our year if they really stick to what we’re doing at this moment.

“We don’t have time to relax after this big win of Township. We have DuBois scheduled to come to our range this coming Friday in what could likely be the deciding match for the AMRC East Division title. DuBois is always a well-coached team and I expect it to be another great match, too. We typically shoot better at home, so I hope see some personal bests and if we focus as we should, hopefully a great team score.”

Liam Tegeler paced the Warriors with a score of 286. George Kuhne also broke into the 280s with a score of 281.

NEW PARIS — Chestnut Ridge’s rifle team picked up a home victory by topping Berlin, 1277-1174, Wednesday.

Molly Miller was the high scorer for the Lions with a 281, while Isaac Smith had a 256.

“This was another good win at our home range,” said Chestnut Ridge coach Brad Criswell. “We’ve been very consistent with our scores throughout this part of the season.

“It’s likely that a couple of our first-year shooters could make an impact on our overall tallies pretty soon. Kevin (Myers), and Greg (Carl) have been showing improvements in their positions. We travel to Dubois tomorrow, for our third match this week, and they’ve been in the 1300-plus range, so that will be a fun challenge for us.”

Chestnut Ridge was at DuBois on Thursday, while the Lions will host North Star on Tuesday.
