Everett Briscoe murder: Suspects in New Orleans officers murder in Houston were encouraged by jailed gang member, records show

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – New exclusive details emerge in the case of the New Orleans officer and another man murdered in the Galleria area.

Court records show that just an hour before the murders, the defendants spoke on the phone with a gang member in the prison who encouraged them to commit robberies and shoot when they had to.

Anthony Jenkins, the brother of Anthony Rayshard Jenkins Jr., one of the suspects, is charged with ordering the prison men to carry out robberies so they can raise money for his release from prison.

Jenkins, who was in jail on a $ 50,000 bond, was charged with another major robbery in April.

According to court documents, on August 21 he recorded a telephone conversation with his brother and the teenagers, who are also charged with the murder.

Court records indicate that his brother and friends watched and stalked a man wearing expensive jewelry during the call. It appeared to them that the victim was wearing a Richard Millie watch valued at $ 200,000.

Court documents say Jenkins told the men to have their guns and be aggressive. “Don’t play with him, power his leg, do it right,” Jenkins said, according to court documents.

In a phone call 30 minutes later, court documents show that Jenkins had been informed that the act had been done but the watch was fake. Investigators said Jenkins encouraged his brother and the teenagers to find more victims.

Within an hour, investigators said that New Orleans Detective Everett Briscoe and his friends had been attacked. Investigators believe the men first saw the group when they walked from their hotel to the grotto. When the group was sitting on the terrace of the restaurant, they were approached at gunpoint by the suspects before Briscoe and his friend DJ Riculfy were shot, police said.

In jail, Jenkins was charged with aggravated robbery with a lethal weapon for instructing his brother Anthony Rayshard Jenkins Jr. and Frederick Jackson to rob and kill people if they had to to get money for his loan.

Jenkins Jr., Jackson, and Khalil Nelson were jailed for murder and robbery

Court records show that Jenkins deposited a bond on November 24, but an arrest warrant was later issued for violating these terms.

When Jenkins appeared for a court hearing on Wednesday morning, he was arrested again and the hearing was postponed until Thursday.

Prosecutors told Eyewitness News that they are hoping to convince a judge to detain him without commitment.
