Everett board hires coaches |

Everett Area School board approved Brian Koontz as head varsity football coach and Josh Krupa as head varsity wrestling coach. (See story, Page A6)

The board accepted the resignations of head cook Violet Hall and Ejai Rock as varsity wrestling coach.

“Violet has been with us for 18 years and has done good work. Ejai did a really good job for us last year as varsity wrestling coach. I’m sorry to see him go as well,” said President Kyle Cornell.

Cafeteria lunch and breakfast prices were approved for the 2022-2023 school year. Breakfast will be $1.10. Elementary lunch will be $2.10 and middle school/high school will be $2.25.

The Nutrition Group was the only bid for the food service agreement. They were approved for the five-year contract. High School Principal Donald Burd pointed out the group had been with the school about 25 years. Burd said, “They are doing a very good job for us.”

Everett received the 2022 True Value Painting a Brighter Future Grant for 20 gallons of paint and paint accessories.

The board tentatively adopted policies on student discipline, student expression/dissemination of materials, controlled substances/paraphernalia, electronic devices, bullying, food services and statement of financial interests. This is the first read through for the board, final adoption is planned for May.

A preliminary look at the school’s budget will be in May. There was discussion on the cost drivers of the upcoming budget. These include charter school costs, salaries and benefits and support staff pay raising due to workforce issues.

Other items discussed:

• Approval of two student teachers;

• Approval of five substitute teachers for the 2021-2022 year;

• Approval of hiring a custodian;

• Authorized administration to implement financial protection measures on district accounts,
