Eugene F. O’Brien to March in 2022 Rose Parade – Everett Independent

The Saluting America’s Band Directors project will bring together band directors from across the country through January 1st under the theme “We Teach Music. We teach life. “

Eugene F. O’Brien, Everett Massachusetts Music and Marching Band Coordinator and Everett High School, has been selected to join a marching band of up to 300 directors from around the country in the Pasadena Rose Parade on January 1 , 2022. The band will accompany a colorful, animated float along the 8 km long parade route.

Everett High Coordinator of Music Gene O’Brien will attend the Rose Bowl Parade in 2022.

The parade entry of the band directors of Saluting America conveys the theme: “We teach music. We teach life. “In recognition of the exceptional dedication and achievements of band directors and music educators everywhere. Throughout their careers, the band’s music educators have collectively tutored and taught hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of students. Not only do these professionals teach and conduct music, they also teach about life itself.

O’Brien: “I am truly humble to be nominated for the Rose Tournament Parade on New Years Day to represent the City of Everett, the Everett Crimson Tide Marching Band and the Everett Public Schools at this spectacular event. I have been blessed for 25 years to have wonderful students, colleagues, and wonderful support from school, city, and state leaders. “

The band is led by nationally known music educator and innovative band director Jon Waters, who will also lead rehearsals and a band festival performance in Pasadena. A special piece of music for the band was written by Bob Thurston, a published composer, former band director.

The sponsoring organization behind the Saluting America band directors project is the Michael D. Sewell Memorial Foundation, based in Pickerington, Ohio. The foundation was established to recognize and continue the work of the late Mike Sewell, who devoted his life to school and community music programs in Pickerington and the Central Ohio area for nearly 40 years.
