Eight hospitalized after vehicle drives into crowd at Texas racetrack – Everett Post

(EL PASO, Texas) – At least eight people will be hospitalized after an accident while racing on a mud track in Texas Sunday, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, three of them in critical condition.

According to the authorities, one of the vehicles left the route “for unknown reasons” and broke through the guardrail, hitting spectators and three other vehicles.

El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego, quoting a briefing he received from Chief Tom Whitten of the Sheriff’s Office, told KVIA-TV, a subsidiary of ABC News El Paso, that a total of 29 people were injured.

The incident occurred around 6:35 p.m. local time in Block 17600 of Island Guadalupe Road.

Additional information, including the names of the victims, was not released. The driver’s identity and condition were also not made public.
