Drugs found in reach of children, mother and father charged

LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A welfare check of two young children on Monday resulted in a mother and father being charged with neglecting children who were at risk of injury.

According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to Chief Logan Lodge after a complaint described a mother who may have been under the influence of two young children swimming in the lodge’s pool.

By the time a deputy arrived, Jessica Salisbury and the children were already back in a room at the lodge.

Everett Salisbury, the children’s father, opened the door and let the deputy enter.

The deputy said Jessica was fidgeting and couldn’t sit still during the conversation.

A field sobriety test showed signs of impairment in both Jessica and Everett.

A small plastic bag containing a brown powdery substance believed to be heroin was found to be clearly visible on the bed, according to the sheriff’s office.

During a search, the MP also discovered a magnetic box in the bedside table that contained about 4.75 ounces of what was believed to be heroin.

The sheriff’s office says Everett later admitted the controlled substance was heroin.

The police also searched two vehicles that belonged to the couple on site.

A blue-green and silver Walther CCP 9mm (WK129885) that was loaded with one in the chamber was inside the vehicle Jessica was driving, MPs say.

Another magnet box was found under the bonnet of the other vehicle on the right-hand side, which was attached to the fender recess on the passenger side. That box contained a small red zip-lock bag of crystal methamphetamine, an ecstasy pill and a plastic bag of purple powder that also tested positive for ecstasy, and another clear plastic bag of cracked cocaine.

WV State Police assisted the search, including Trooper Bryant, Trooper Fields, and Trooper First Class Hannon. Also members of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office who helped with the search were Cpl. C. Crum and Chef M. Lafauci.

Jessica Salisbury, 59, has been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, neglecting child at risk of injury and the common user or banned person.

Everett Douglas Salisbury, 44, has been charged with childbirth and neglect of children who are at risk of injury.
