Drugging allegations at Northwestern frat houses spark protests – Everett Post

(EVANSTON, Ill.) – Northwestern University says it is investigating two fraternities after students said they were not consensually drugged at gatherings on campus in Evanston, Ill. The local police are now also investigating the incidents.

The university has not yet determined how many students were allegedly involved.

On Saturday, school officials halted social events and chapters-sponsored recruiting activities in some campus fraternities. The lock will last until October 17th at the earliest.

The university encourages students to seek on-campus counseling and other health services if necessary, as student protests erupt in the two locations where the incidents allegedly took place.

“I’m here because several survivors have come forward and expressed the damage they have suffered in this and other communities,” a student told ABC Chicago. “This is not an isolated incident.”

School officials said in a statement that they have been in touch with and “understand” the Interfraternity Council, the governing body of many fraternities[s] the seriousness of these reports and the importance of the investigation. “

The IFC has also taken a decision to ban all social activities, including recruiting events, during this period.

“This decision was made to ensure the safety of our students,” a university official told ABC News. “As we said in our message to the Northwestern Church, the health, safety, and wellbeing of our students are our top priorities.”

Since then, the university has been reminding students of the anti-alcohol policy in college and student dormitories on campus.

Northwestern University Police Department has asked people with information about these reports to call 847-491-3456.
