Dow’s Everett, O’Connor lead way to SVL jamboree title

Four Chargers place in top eight at first league meet

Dow High’s Carson Everett and Jacob O’Connor both carded a 78 on Wednesday to finish tied for second individually and lead the Chargers to a win at the first Saginaw Valley League boys’ golf jamboree held at Pohlcat in Mount Pleasant.

Dow finished with a team score of 323, while Flint Powers was second at 333 and Grand Blanc third at 346. Midland High finished eighth out of 11 teams at 384.

Also for the Chargers, Cesar Cunaud shot 83 to tie for sixth, while Nathan Cleghorn fired an 84 to tie for eighth.

No individual results for Midland were made available.

The Chargers and Chemics will compete at the second SVL jamboree on Monday at Flint Golf Club.

Fred Kelly is a 1987 graduate of Coleman High School and earned a BS from Central Michigan University in 1993 and an MA from CMU in 1996. He enjoys playing softball as well as other outdoor activities, volunteering at schools, reading, and spending time with his family. He has won numerous awards from various organizations for sports writing and column writing.
