SPOKANE, Wash. — ‘Hamilton’ is a Broadway musical that became a hit across the world — and now, you can finally see it live in Spokane!

Just three nights in, the show brought thousands of people to the First Interstate Center for the Arts.

Spokane dates for ‘Hamilton’ were first announced in 2019 and it was supposed to premiere in spring of 2021.

But as we all know, the pandemic shut down Broadway performances for nearly two years.

It was last August that the US National Tour of ‘Hamilton’ got back on the road where they left off in San Francisco.

Andy Tofa is one of the cast members back on tour.

He plays John Laurens in Act I and Philip Hamilton in Act II of the show.

“I wasn’t ever really an American history fanatic. But definitely coming back and starting the show, I’ve learned so much in terms of having to research for John Laurens, especially. Philip Hamilton,” said Tofa. “Currently, I’m studying [Alexander] Hamilton so even to just learn about him and his personal life, there’s been a lot of really cool biographies I’m listening to or reading on.”

Tofa first joined the US tour of ‘Hamilton’ as a member of the ensemble in 2018.

He told 4 News Now before he was even cast in the show, he won a lottery ticket to see ‘Hamilton’ on Broadway in New York and it was the first Broadway show he’d ever seen!

You don’t have to know a thing about Alexander Hamilton to enjoy ‘Hamilton’.

‘Hamilton’ is the story of American then, told by America now.

It follows the life story of Alexander Hamilton during the American Revolution, the founding of a new nation and his untimely demise at the hands of Aaron Burr.

You may have learned all of this in history class, but not with a hip-hop, jazz and R&B twist to help tell the story.

Tofa says the music and various representations in the cast is what drew him to be a part of it.

He believes new audiences will be captivated too.

“One of the coolest things is to see people’s minds being like ‘Oh my goodness, this is history, but also in a new kind of lens that’s kind of hip and kind of cool’,” said Tofa.

If you want to check out ‘Hamilton’, there are still tickets available online.
