DeShazor Everett holds third annual Next Up football camp

DeRidder, LA (KPLC) – NFL Safety DeShazor Everett is giving back to his community by teaching young children how to play football. He says that growing relationships with the youngsters build their confidence.

“Yeah, I’m starting to relate to the younger ones and they are just happy to see me and I think they work hard and then when they do successful things and point it out to me and it’s just a smile putting on their face by congratulating them and it’s just a comforting feeling, ”Everett said.

The DeRidder native says it’s important to show young kids that it is possible to make it into the NFL and that they could be the next man.

“Who wants to be next, who’s going to be next, and it’s not just about telling them this and showing them I did it,” Everett said. “It exposes them to the work and the grinding behind it. Just putting a smile on their face is the ultimate goal and giving them the confidence, like I said, that your turn could be next. ”

As the camp continues to grow, Everett says the goal is to keep expanding and helping children perfect their craft in the field.

“Just doing a cool camp, but that’s not enough. We have to find a way to make the children more active, to get them into more football-specific things. I can’t just come here and show them the exercises and they never use them, ”added Everett. “So maybe some kind of seven-on-seven or organized team or area team so we can get these guys to actually take advantage of what they’re doing and work on it when they’re all into football and focused on something can concentrate. ” on.”
