Seattle school teacher Dan Jewett confirmed his marriage to Scott this weekend on the couple’s website for the Giving Pledge, a philanthropic organization that encourages the world’s richest people to donate much of their wealth to charity.
“I am married to one of the most generous, friendliest people I know – and I join her in bringing on tremendous financial wealth to serve others,” wrote Jewett. “I’m looking forward to the growth and learning I have in front of me as part of this venture with MacKenzie.”
The Wall Street Journal reported for the first time on the wedding Sunday. Her Amazon biography also states that Scott “lives in Seattle with her four children and husband Dan.”The marriage comes after Scott and Bezos’ divorce after 25 years of marriage. The divorce settlement made her one of the richest people in the world, who currently has a fortune of $ 53 billion, according to Forbes, after receiving a quarter from Bezos. Amazon ((AMZN) Scott has given away billions of dollars as part of a plan to donate much of her fortune. For example, in December she donated $ 4.2 billion to 384 organizations. In a statement on Giving Pledge’s website, Scott said her philanthropic plans had not changed.
“My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care. But I will not wait. And I will hold on to it until the safe is empty,” she said.
Jewett said he plans to follow suit. He said he intended to give away most of his fortune.
“I’ve been a teacher for most of my life and a grateful student for the generosity of those around me,” he said on Giving Pledge. “This meant doing my best to follow their example and passing on resources of all kinds – from time to energy to material possessions – when I had to give them.”
