Community Colleges of Spokane welcomes Dr. Dinh Thi Thanh Van from Vietnam as a visiting Fulbright fellow for 2021-22

Community Colleges of Spokane is pleased to welcome Dr. Dinh Thi Thanh Van from Vietnam as this year’s Fulbright scholarship holder in Spokane. Dr. Van, who had no direct teaching engagements in her first quarter, will be giving several guest lectures at Spokane Community College this fall.

“We are honored to have Dr. Van join CCS as a Fulbright Fellow at Spokane Community College,” said CCS Provost Valerie Senatore. “Dr. Van’s broad and extensive experience around the world in both academia and finance provides an unparalleled learning opportunity for students and the CCS community.”

Since 2014, Dr. Van Vice Dean of Finance and Banking at the Vietnam National University of Business and Economics. Her interests include personal finance, bank management, treasure management in banks, financial risk management and corporate finance in bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

Dr. Van has over 15 years of teaching and lecturing experience in economics, finance and banking. She received her BA in Accounting in Vietnam in 1998 and her Masters in Finance in Eau Claire, Wisconsin in 2005.

In 2013, Dr. Van in advanced econometrics.

Dr. Van was also a Fulbright Visiting Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley from 2013 to 2014. In addition to her work at universities, she also teaches financial education courses for K-12 students, college students, and rural women and other minority groups in Vietnam.

“With a deliberate focus on women entrepreneurs, Dr. Van’s expertise will uniquely enrich our students’ educational pathways that further our commitment to supporting diverse and inclusive pathways to career success,” said Provost Senatore.

Dr. Van is also the editor of several books on financial education such as Finance for Kids, Personal Financial Management for Women, Financial Management Manual for Students and is co-author of the board game Financial Race.

During his time at SCC, Dr. Van accompanied by faculty mentor Mike Allen. Dr. Van will be visiting professor in several business classes in the fall quarter and will teach one class in both the winter and spring quarters.

“The SCC School of Economics and Law is excited to partner with Dr. Van and learn from her expertise in financial literacy, entrepreneurship and economics,” said Jeff Brown, dean of economics, hospitality and information technology at SCC.

The Fulbright Visiting Scholars Program is a scholarship program that provides faculty and professionals from around the world the opportunity to research and teach in the United States. Individual scholarships are available to scholars from over 155 countries.
