Colter Wall suspends tour to avoid pandemic “worsening”

Colter Wall posted a message to his fans on his social media pages today (Jan. 6) that he is taking a break from the streets for the foreseeable future after canceling a number of shows booked for January and February became.

The Canadian country singer, known for his rough baritone voice, first thanked his fans for their continued support for his music before addressing his decision to cancel the tour.

“As I said, it’s not my job to tell someone that they can or cannot come to my live shows,” writes Wall. “That’s why I did my best to avoid mask and Covid vaccine problems. Even so, it has become increasingly difficult to tour again, not just because of the demands, but because of the whole” [expletive] that comes with it. A positive Covid test can stop a tour, leave venues understaffed, or even prevent me from crossing the border to get home. “

Wall had to cancel several shows in 2021, including a long fall tour as Canada closes its borders and bans entry to the US as COVID-19 continues to spread.

“It doesn’t work that way. And honestly, I can’t stand trying to control all the damn politics,” he continued. “So I stay off the road for the time being and stick to rearing cattle, writing songs and recording music. I appreciate your understanding and continued support. “

The news was shared the day after the cancellation was first announced, stating that “tours don’t make a lot of sense to us at the moment under the current conditions”. The succinct announcement generated mixed reactions from fans on Wall’s Facebook page, with comments ranging from relief to frustration at the decision. This post has since been deleted from Facebook, while the comments section has been disabled for both posts shared on Instagram.

Fans who had tickets to Wall’s now-canceled shows in New Orleans, Houston, New Braunfels, Oklahoma City, Denver and Tulsa can receive a refund through their point of sale.

Wall is one of many artists who are coping with the current surge in COVID-19 in the United States due to the Omicron variant. On January 6, the World Health Organization reported that global infections had hit an all-time high in the previous week, with 9.5 million new cases reported. The rapid surge in infections coincided with the planned launch of many tours for established and emerging artists, which resulted in some being postponed or postponed until later in 2022. Large-scale music events and festivals, including the 64th annual Grammy Awards and Folk Alliance Conference, have also been postponed in recent days.

Wall’s newest album, Western Swing & Waltzes and Other Punchy Songs, released in 2020, received widespread critical acclaim. His cover of Elton Britt and the 1950s Skytoppers ballad “Cowpoke” was recently featured on an episode of the popular Paramount television series Yellowstone.
