City of Spokane, SPS Holds Meeting to Discuss New Middle School and South Hill Dog Park Options | news

SPOKANE, Washington – Spokane Public Schools and the City of Spokane are holding a public gathering tonight to discuss the current South Hill Dog Park, which is also the location of a new middle school.

It’s been three years since dog lovers were told the park was moving away to make way for a middle school on South Hill. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Carla Peperzak Middle School is scheduled to take place in two weeks, but there is no concrete solution for dog park visitors.

The new school is part of the $ 495 million bond approved by the district’s voters in 2018. At the time, many were assured that there would be a place for their dogs in the countryside near the current park, which used to be a landfill. However, last month the district learned from the city that the property was unsuitable for public use.

Tonight, SPS and the city are expected to offer some solutions. These include Hamblen Park, Hazel’s Creek drainage and conversation facility, Upper Lincoln Park, and Campion Park.

The meeting will take place at 5:00 p.m. at Mullan Road Elementary.
