Charlie Baker to Provide COVID Update – NBC Boston

Governor Charlie Baker is expected to give notice of the coronavirus in Massachusetts during a visit to a school vaccination clinic on Monday afternoon.

Baker is scheduled to tour the Everett Public Schools Vaccine Clinic at Everett High School with Secretary of Education James Peyser and Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria around 2 p.m.

Massachusetts COVID metrics, tracked on the Department of Health’s interactive coronavirus dashboard, are far lower than they were a few months ago, although they have been increasing in recent weeks. While groundbreaking cases are reported, officials say most new cases, and particularly serious infections, are unvaccinated.

The number of new cases of COVID-19 rose nearly 1,600 on Friday, while the number of newly confirmed coronavirus deaths in Massachusetts rose by six.

The new numbers brought the state’s confirmed COVID-19 death toll since the pandemic began to 17,847, while the confirmed number of cases rose to nearly 704,000 since the pandemic began.

About 570 people were hospitalized on Friday for confirmed cases of COVID-19, including about 150 in intensive care units.

The average age of those who died of Covid-19 was 75 years.

The actual number of cases is likely higher as studies suggest that some people may be infected and not feel sick.

More than 4.4 million people in Massachusetts are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
