Caregiver arrested for allegedly raping elderly woman at Everett memory care facility

Everett Police say an 81-year-old woman who was living in a living memory care facility was sexually assaulted by a male caregiver.

EVERETT, Wash. – A 30-year-old man from Lynnwood is charged with raping one of the residents of an assisted living facility in Everett, 4200 block on Colby Avenue.

Everett police said on the morning of September 7th that an employee at the facility believed an 81-year-old resident had been sexually assaulted. This employee notified her superiors, who then notified the police.

The woman was taken to the hospital for a sexual assault investigation. The woman has dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, speaks little English according to the police and cannot remember anything that happened.

During the investigation, investigators obtained DNA swabs from two male nurses who were on duty the night of the attack. The results of the Washington State Crime Lab report showed strong support that one of the men, a 30-year-old from Lynnwood, was responsible, according to police.

Detectives arrested the man Tuesday and took him to Snohomish County Jail for second degree rape. His identity was not made public.

The Washington Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) said it is aware of the incident and arrest and is conducting an investigation into the facility.
