Brackets released for state high school baseball tournaments

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association released the brackets for the high school state baseball tournaments on Sunday.

For each classification, teams that qualified for state through their respective district tournaments were seeded by the WIAA’s seeding committees. The committees used the WIAA’s state RPI rankings as one tool in their seeding.

Here’s a look at the matchups for local teams, with times and locations included if available:

CLASS 3A

The 3A state tournament is a 20-team single-elimination bracket. Seeds 13-20 square off in play-in games Tuesday. The winners advance to Saturday’s 16-team state regionals, which consist of four pods of four teams apiece. The four state regional champions advance to the state final four in Pasco on May 27-28.

No. 7 Lynnwood faces no. 10 Mt. Spokane in a first-round state regional matchup at 1 pm Saturday at Mount Si High School. The winner advances to face either No. 2 Lake Washington, no. 15 Edmonds-Woodway or No. 18 Gig Harbor later in the afternoon.

No. 15 Edmonds Woodway faces no. 18 Gig Harbor in a play-in game Tuesday. The winner advances to face no. 2 Lake Washington in a first-round state regional matchup at 10 am Saturday at Mount Si High School. The winner of that game advances to face either No. 7 Lynnwood or No. 10 Mt. Spokane later in the afternoon.

No. 17 Stanwood faces no. 16 Kelso in a play-in game Tuesday. The winner advances to face no. 1 West Seattle in a first-round state regional matchup at 10 am Saturday at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue. The winner of that game advances to face either No. 8 Walla Walla or No. 9 Bonney Lake later in the afternoon.

No. 20 Mount Lake Terrace faces no. 13 Bishop Blanchet in a play-in game Tuesday. The winner advances to face no. 4 Auburn in a first-round state regional matchup at 1 pm Saturday at Auburn High School. The winner of that game advances to face either No. 5 Bainbridge or No. 12 Mercer Island later in the afternoon.

CLASS 2A

The 2A state tournament is a 16-team single-elimination bracket. It begins with Saturday’s state regionals, which consist of four pods of four teams apiece. The four state regional champions advance to the state final four in Yakima on May 27-28.

No. 10 Archbishop Murphy faces no. 7 West Valley-Spokane in a first-round state regional matchup at 1 pm Saturday at Propstra Stadium in Vancouver, Washington. The winner advances to face either No. 2 Columbia River or No. 15 Steilacoom later in the afternoon.
