BOZEMAN, Montana — The Montana State University women’s golf team’s fall season continues at Eastern Washington’s Eagle Invitational, held at Indian Canyon Golf Course in Spokane, Wash. from Sept 26-28.

The 54-hole tournament will be held at the par-72, 6,000-yard Indian Canyon Golf Course, where 60 players from 11 teams will play a single round on each day between Monday, Sept. 26 and Wednesday, Sept. 28. Monday and Tuesday’s rounds start at 11 am MT, while Wednesday’s round is set to begin at 9 am MT.

Live scoring will be provided through Golfstat; links can be found on the women’s golf team’s schedule page on msubobcats.com.

Aside from the Bobcats, the 11-team field features fellow Big Sky Conference opponents Eastern Washington, Idaho State, Montana, Portland State and Weber State, with the University of Idaho bringing Kyndall Newman as an individual. Cal State Bakersfield, Utah Tech, Division III Whitworth University and two players from Gonzaga round out the opposing teams.

Montana State will take a group of six to Spokane, including reigning co-Big Sky Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week Scarlet Weidig Velazquez, Lauren Greeny, Kameryn Basye, Cora Rosanova, Maddie Montoya and Jordan Briggs.

“Every tournament we play is an opportunity to get better,” Head coach Brittany Basye said. “We learned a lot from our last tournament and we saw what our players could do, but we can do more. We’re starting out great, but we’re going to keep getting better.”

The Bobcats most recently placed second out of 10 teams at the Kelsey Chugg Invitational, at which Weidig Velazquez won the tournament with an even-par 216 (74-71-71) at the par-72 Wolf Creek Resort on Sept. 19-20 . She would go on to win co-Big Sky Women’s Golfer of the Week honors for her efforts. At the same tournament, Greeny shot a 5-under 67 in the first round, tying the best 18-hole round in program history.

As a whole, the team closed the tournament with a strong finish on the back nine, as Weidig Velazquez birdied five times on the back nine — including her final three holes. Greeny birdied, then eagled for the second time in the tournament on the final hole, plus fellow freshman Montoya birdied the last two holes to tie her best round of the tournament.

“That’s the best finish we’ve ever had,” Assistant coach Joey Lovell said. “The team as a whole over the final five holes leaped up the leaderboard, which was huge.”

Day one of the Eagle Invitational begins at 11 am MT on Monday. After this week’s tournament, the Bobcats start the second half of fall play at Seattle University’s Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational, held in Tacoma, Wash. from Oct. 3-4
