Bezos’s ex-wife gets remarried to Seattle Teacher

The billionaire, philanthropist, and author married a science teacher in Seattle.

SEATTLE – MacKenzie Scott, philanthropist, author and former wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, married a Seattle science teacher, who said: “For the exceptional privilege of being a partner in the delivery of assets that have potential to do so much good while sharing. “

Dan Jewett, who made the announcement in a letter to the nonprofit website Giving Pledge on Saturday, said he never thought he would be able to talk about giving away significant wealth to something during his life to effect other people’s lives.

Jewett has been a teacher for decades, most recently teaching chemistry at the private Lakeside School that Scott’s children attended.

“And now, in a happy coincidence, I am married to one of the most generous, kindest people I know – and join her to pass on tremendous financial fortune to serve others,” wrote Jewett.

After Scott donated $ 1.68 billion to 116 nonprofits, universities, community development groups, and legal organizations last July, Scott asked a team of advisors to help her “expedite” her 2020 donations with immediate assistance for those who have received financial relief from the pandemic.

Scott donated a total of $ 5.7 billion in 2020 by asking community leaders to identify 512 seven- and eight-digit gift organizations, including food banks, human service organizations, and racial justice charities.

According to the Chronicle of Philanthropy annual ranking, she was number 2 among the 50 Americans who gave the most to charity last year.

Bezos topped the list by donating $ 10 billion to launch the Bezos Earth Fund.
