At least 19 dead, 32 injured after bus crash in Mexico – Everett Post

(JOQUICINGO, Mexico) – At least 19 people were killed and dozens more injured in a bus accident in central Mexico on Friday.

The accident happened on a highway in Joquicingo, a municipality in the state of Mexico, which is about 45 miles southwest of Mexico City.

A tour bus that was going to a religious site in the state of Mexico crashed into a building after the brakes failed, the Mexican state’s Ministry of Health said.

According to the authorities, 19 people were killed and 32 injured after the crash.

Six people, including two minors, were flown to a hospital in Toluca while others were transported to several hospitals in the area, officials said. According to the Ministry of Health, the injured included several women and children with injuries ranging from broken bones to head injuries.

Several authorities responded to the scene of the accident, including the Red Cross and the State Emergency Service of Mexico.

Alfredo Del Mazo, the governor of Mexico state, said in a statement on Twitter that he had directed the heads of civil protection, security, rescue and health authorities to support the families affected.

Officials said the bus is on tour with the tourism company Turismo Tejeda and is going from the Sahuayo community, Michoacan, to the Santuario del Señor de Chalma, a place of worship that is a Christian pilgrimage site.
