Asian Community | South Seattle Emerald

In response to the recent worrying surge in hate crimes against Asians and Asian Americans locally and in the US, Washington Governor Jay Inslee and other local leaders condemned attacks in Seattle and Washington state this week. A series of marches and rallies is planned in King County this weekend calling for investments in and resources for Asian communities and solidarity across racial lines with the victims and families of those who suffered the attacks.

“We saw this ugly spike a year ago when COVID-19 first appeared in our state,” Inslee said in a written statement. “A year later we have a vaccine against the virus – but racism is still widespread. We must all condemn the acts of hatred and violence that are reflected in the increasing incidence of anti-Asian hate crimes in both Washington State and across the country. ”
