Another two shot in The Port; Separate incidents injure Cambridge teen, 22-year-old Everett man

Police are investigating two separate overnight shootings in The Port neighborhood, each of which did not result in life-threatening injuries to the victims.

At around 4:30 a.m. Friday, Police Department ShotSpotter technology detected gunfire near Broadway and Windsor Street, where the responding officers found a 16-year-old male Cantabrian who had been shot in the lower body, abdomen or back – allegedly by someone who stopped in a car in front of the victim, shot him and then drove away. Police said the victim was being taken to a local hospital for treatment, and investigators found three shell casings in the area. Two vehicles were also hit by the gunfire.

Hours earlier – around 11:18 p.m. on Thursday – officials patrolling the area responded to the sound of gunfire and a ShotSpotter activation near Washington St., according to a Thursday email. Man found by police with a gunshot wound on his leg. He, too, was taken to a local hospital while officers searching the scene found at least eight shell casings and two other vehicles parked in a nearby parking lot that had been shot at.

Both victims were considered to be in stable condition on Friday afternoon after Jeremy Warnick, director of communications and media relations for the Cambridge Police Department, said the attacks were not accidental.

There have been no arrests. Officials said they were processing evidence from the incidents and will follow up the victims, witnesses and everyone who lived and worked in the area at the time of the shootings.

These are at least the seventh and eighth shots in the city for 2021. The most recent shootings in Cambridge, like the Thursday and Friday incidents, were non-fatal and took place at The Port. In the incident, two men were shot dead on May 19 and nearby cars were also hit.
