The clinic will address the growing mental crisis and offer breakthrough treatment for depression

The World Health Organization found that depression will be the leading cause of morbidity around the world by 2035. “

VANCOUVER, WASHINGTON, U.S., March 11, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ – Since the pandemic began, the number of people showing symptoms and seeking help with depression has skyrocketed. A recent study found that 4 out of 10 adults reported symptoms of anxiety or depressive disorder, a four-fold increase from living before COVID. The Kaiser Family Foundation analyzed the US Census Bureau’s Household Pulse Survey and found that the prevalence of mental illness in Washington has increased significantly over the past year. To provide additional treatment options to address this growing crisis, Active Recovery TMS, an Oregon-based mental health clinic specializing in transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for the treatment of depression, is opening its sixth location in Vancouver in April.

Active Recovery TMS is currently admitting patients to its new clinic at Columbia Tech Center, Building 608, 1499 SE Tech Center PL, Suite 170, Vancouver, WA 98683. The clinic will provide those with major depression who have not responded to medication or talk therapy with a valuable option for mental health management. TMS can reduce or control symptoms of depression with minimal side effects. It is an FDA cleared treatment that is covered by most commercial insurance plans, Medicare, Medicaid, VA, and Tri-Care / Tri-West.

“The World Health Organization has determined that by 2035, depression will be the leading cause of morbidity worldwide,” says Dr. Pritham Raj, FACP, Psychiatrist at Active Recovery TMS. “When I first started researching TMS, I saw great results from research studies of patients and their remission, and I was delighted to see people receiving help with such mild side effects and little or no medication.”

Active Recovery TMS currently has five locations in the greater Portland area and the greater Willamette Valley area. In addition to the clinic in NW Portland, the company opened clinics in Hillsboro, Tigard, Salem and most recently in Clackamas last year. The demand for clinic services continues to grow. Over the past year, the practice nearly doubled in size and hired 12 new employees, including psychiatric nurses and technicians.

“Our goal is to improve access to this breakthrough treatment for all patients in our area. Expansion into Washington State has long been a goal. We can now offer this treatment to patients in southwest Washington, many of which was in Portland every week, “said David Grano, CEO of Active Recovery TMS. “As this treatment is performed daily, it is essential that the clinics are close to work and our patients’ homes.”

While referral from service providers is not required, clinics work with providers to design treatment plans and confirm insurance coverage for the procedures.

TMS uses a highly focused, pulsed magnetic field (similar to an MRI) to target the areas of the brain that are involved in regulating mood. Each treatment lasts approximately 20 minutes, five days a week for 6 weeks. While antidepressants can interfere with sleep or exercise, TMS causes minimal side effects in a small percentage of people. The therapy is administered on an outpatient basis so that patients can resume normal activities immediately after treatment.

The National Institute of Mental Health reports that depression is one of the most common mental disorders in the United States. An estimated 17.3 million adults (7.1% of all US adults) had at least one major depressive episode in 2017. Studies now show this. The number has multiplied as a result of the COVID pandemic.

Based on an internal review of patient results, 79% of Active Recovery TMS patients have shown a measurable decrease in symptoms of depression. These results are reported on Patient Health Questionnaire 9 (PHQ-9, a commonly used depression scale), and one-third achieve control of their depression and are symptom-free. These numbers reflect more stringent national studies conducted in the clinical setting.
