A grand opening for Tum-A-Lum’s Pendleton location

Tum-A-Lum celebrated its grand opening with a VIP night and ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, April 1.

Pendleton, Ore. — After 96 years of serving the Pendleton, Oregon community from the same historic building and lumberyard, Tum-A-Lum Lumber opened the doors on its new and modern store Feb. 7. The store’s unique design features focus on an inspirational shopping experience.

Tum-A-Lum celebrated its Grand Opening with a VIP night and ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, April 1. On Saturday, the festivities continued with a family-friendly event. More than 1,000 customers and neighbors enjoyed a free tri-tip steak lunch, special deals, product demonstrations, kids’ activities, and raffle prizes.

“We appreciate the decades of support and are thrilled to celebrate our flagship store with the city of Pendleton. The new store will enhance their community and serve the surrounding area for many years to come,” said TAL Holdings CEO Jason Blair.

The new store has 11,300 square feet of retail space, compared to the old stores’ 2,000 square feet, and sits on a 4-acre lot with 3.5 acres of paved space for the new lumber yard. There is a full-line hardware store that includes a Design Center with cabinets, counter tops, doors, and windows. There is also a lawn and garden care center, including a full nursery outside.

Tum-A-Lum partnered with Bouten Construction, many local subcontractors and award-winning Graham Baba Architects to create a modern building materials center designed to be a one-stop shop for the community.

The history of the City of Pendleton and Tum-A-Lum are intertwined, and the design team wanted to integrate special memorabilia from the original store. The new store showcases historic pieces, including a large graphic of the old store on the back wall. The iconic wooden logo will also be taken apart, refinished, and reinstalled in its new home.
