5 potential landing spots for Seattle Seahawks Rashaad Penny

The Seattle Seahawks simply saw Rashaad Penny off the field in the last third of the season. Penny is now a free agent and will have many admirers, including Seattle of course. Not exercising Penny’s fifth-year option ahead of the 2021 season seems like a mistake now, but it was the right move at the time.

No one could have guessed, after watching the Seahawks play their first 11 games of 2021, that Rashaad Penny would end up having the season he did. In those 11 games (of which Penny played in four), he rushed for 50 total yards on 17 carries. Penny finished the season as the NFL leader in yards per rush (6.3), beating his previous career high in rushing yards by 330 yards.

Penny may have become a must for Seattle this offseason, but other teams need a good runback, too. He should have several offers to choose from like the following teams.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons aren’t a great team and they have an aging quarterback, but a healthy Rashaad Penny is helping them improve. Atlanta’s rushing attack was so bad this season that it was led by Cordarelle Patterson (153 carries and 618 yards and 6 touchdowns rushing). Nothing against Patterson, but he’s not supposed to be a running back. He’s a wide receiver/return specialist. Patterson actually did quite well as a running back, but lasting success is unlikely.

However, to help quarterback Matt Ryan get better, the Falcons need a real running back. Atlanta have rising superstar Kyle Pitts on the tight end and receiver Calvin Ridley should be back in 2022. The Falcons offense with a very good RB like Penny would increase their winning total next year.
