CHEWELAH, Wash. – Good news, powder fans. 49 Degrees North and Mt. Spokane will open on Friday.

49 Degrees North not only opens the mountain but also holds the grand opening for Northern Spirit Express. It’s the brand new, fast four-seater chairlift.

“This is a historic moment, not only for the resort, but also for the skiers and drivers in east Washington,” said a statement from the operator.

The mountain plans to operate Northern Spirit, Payday, and the Gold Fever Conveyer from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Additional lifts and grounds will open depending on the weather and conditions.

Over on Mt. Spokane, the opening day is also scheduled for Friday, but operations will be restricted.

Access to the elevator is restricted to holders of season tickets, holiday campers, lessons and previously planned tickets only. The mountain does not sell lift tickets for limited opening days (December 17-21).

As more snow accumulates, new terrain and additional lifts will open.

The mountain operators have not yet determined when night skiing will start.
