4.4 magnitude earthquake rumbled in Linn County early Friday morning

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake originating in Linn County was felt from Eugene to Vancouver, Washington, the US Geological Survey said Friday morning.

The rumbling hypocenter was tracked to an area about nine miles southeast of Lacomb, near Green Peter Lake and the Santiam Wilderness, just before 6 am

The earth’s trembling woke some people up — from Cottage Grove to Corvallis, where one person awoke to their pet birds panicking. At least a dozen people reported feeling it as far away as Camas.

No damage has been reported.

The earthquake was just below the threshold for the US Geological Survey’s “Shake Alert” cell phone pings to be sent out. At 4.5. magnitude or larger, the agency warns residents near the earthquake’s center to “Drop, Cover and Hold on.”

If you felt the rattle Friday morning, report it here.
