SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A 16-year-old boy is accused of stabbing another teenage boy near the Spokane River.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect was with the victim during the stabbing on East Indiana near the Centennial Trail. Detectives say the suspect attacked the victim from behind and wouldn’t call 911 until the victim “promised he wouldn’t snitch,” saying they created a fake story and description of the attack. The victim told detectives he initially lied because he was afraid of the suspect after the attack.

The day after the attack, detectives found a knife they believe was used in the attack near the crime scene.

The suspect, who is not being identified because he is underage, was charged with first-degree assault.

The teenage boy stabbed in Spokane Valley on Tuesday remains in the hospital in critical condition.
