The highway reopened shortly before 11 am, but Nashua police said “road conditions across the city remain dangerous”.

According to a MassDOT spokeswoman, the agency was also made aware of a “backlog” involving dozens of vehicles on I-95 just past the NH border near Salisbury.

All highways and freeways were open until 1 p.m., New Hampshire State Police said.

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation said mixed rainfall combined with freezing temperatures “creates very freezing road conditions”.

“Please consider postponing the trip,” the department said.

I-89 North is also closed at Exit 5 due to slippery conditions and an accident, the NH State Police said. Drivers are asked to look for alternative routes.

Portsmouth, New Hampshire Police also told drivers to stay home for the time being.

“We are receiving a lot of reports of vehicles sliding off the road due to freezing conditions,” the department tweeted. “If driving is required, please be extremely careful.”
